Can I enter a book that has not been released yet?

Can I enter a short story?

ADAPTATION RIGHTS

Do I need to own the film and television rights?

Yes.

You must own, control, or have written authorization to submit the applicable adaptation rights.

What if my publisher controls the adaptation rights?

You must obtain written authorization from the publisher or applicable rights holder before entering.

Can my literary agent or publisher submit for me?

Yes.

An authorized agent, publisher, manager, attorney, estate representative, or other rights holder may submit on behalf of an author or creator.

Can I enter a project that is currently optioned?

No, if the active option prevents the project from being considered for other opportunities.

Can I enter a project that was previously optioned?

Yes, provided the agreement has expired or terminated and the necessary rights have reverted to you.

Can I enter a project under a shopping agreement?

A project under an active exclusive shopping agreement is generally not eligible.

A nonexclusive arrangement may be eligible if it does not conflict with the Competition or prevent Page Turner Books from making permitted introductions.

What if I already wrote a screenplay based on my book?

The underlying work may still be eligible if the screenplay has not been produced and the project is not restricted by an active option, shopping, representation, or development agreement.

What materials do I need to submit?

The standard submission package may include:

Do I need to submit the complete manuscript?

Can I exceed the page or word-count limit?

A modest overage may be accepted when necessary to finish a chapter, scene, or section naturally.

Substantial overages may not be reviewed.

Do I need to submit a screenplay?

What is an adaptation statement?

An adaptation statement may be requested from Finalists. It is a brief explanation of how you envision the project working on screen.

It may discuss:

What file formats are accepted?

PDF is generally preferred unless otherwise stated.

MULTIPLE CREATORS AND SUBMISSIONS

Can I submit more than one project?

Yes.

Each project requires a separate registration and entry fee unless the Competition webpage states otherwise.

Can co-authors enter together?

Yes.

The registration must identify all applicable co-authors or creators. The submitting entrant must have authority to act on behalf of the other rights holders.

Who receives the prize if there are multiple creators?

Page Turner Books will deliver the prize to the designated entrant or authorized representative.

The creators are responsible for determining how any cash award or benefit will be divided among them.

Can an illustrator or artist submit a graphic novel?

Yes, provided the submitting person owns or controls the necessary rights or has authorization from the applicable writer, publisher, or co-creator.

EVALUATION AND RESULTS

How are projects judged?

Who reads the submissions?

Submissions may be reviewed by Page Turner Books staff, professional readers, writers, editors, publishers, agents, managers, producers, development executives, and other qualified industry professionals.

Will every judge read the complete book?

Not necessarily.

Initial evaluation may focus on the submitted pages, synopsis, logline, and other required materials.

Page Turner Books may request and review the complete project during later rounds.

Will I receive feedback?

Feedback will be provided only when included in the selected entry package, purchased as an additional service, or awarded as part of a prize.

When will results be announced?

Will Page Turner Books help prepare the project for submission?

The exact level of support will depend on the award or selection level.

Will Page Turner Books represent my project?

Entering or winning does not automatically create a representation agreement.

Any representation, shopping, management, publishing, or production relationship would require a separate written agreement.

Do I retain ownership of my project?

Page Turner Books evaluates each eligible submission both as a written work and as a potential screen property.

The goal of the Competition is not simply to recognize strong writing. It is to identify compelling stories and help selected creators position their work for meaningful professional opportunities.

2. COMPETITION ADMINISTRATOR

The Page Turner Books Adaptation Competition, referred to throughout these Official Rules as the “Competition,” is administered by:

Doing business as Page Turner Books.

The Competition administrator may be referred to as “Page Turner Books,” “PTB,” “Administrator,” “Sponsor,” “we,” “us,” or “our.”

3. WHO MAY ENTER

The Competition is open to writers and creators worldwide who are eighteen years of age or older at the time of entry.

Eligible entrants may include:

Estates
Other authorized representatives of the applicable rights holder

A publisher, agent, manager, attorney, estate representative, or other third party may submit a project only if that person or organization has authority from the applicable rights holder.

The following individuals are not eligible:

Employees, officers, directors, contractors, readers, or judges of Page Turner Books
Individuals directly involved in administering or producing the Competition
Immediate family members or household members of an ineligible individual
Anyone prohibited from entering under applicable law

Page Turner Books permits previous finalists, semifinalists, or participants to enter new projects unless otherwise stated on the Competition website.

4. ELIGIBLE PROJECTS

The Competition accepts original narrative works with potential for adaptation into film, television, limited series, animation, or another screen-based format.

Page Turner Books may decline material that does not reasonably fit the purpose or available categories of the Competition.

5. PROJECTS THAT ARE NOT ELIGIBLE

A project is not eligible if:

It has already been produced or commercially released as a feature film, television movie, television series, limited series, or substantially equivalent screen production
It is subject to an active film or television option that prevents the entrant from discussing or pursuing other adaptation opportunities
It is subject to an exclusive shopping, representation, attachment, or development agreement that conflicts with participation in the Competition
The entrant does not own or control the rights necessary to submit the project
The project unlawfully uses copyrighted material, trademarks, characters, artwork, or other intellectual property belonging to another party
The project is based on a true story, real person, or protected source material without the permissions required by law
The submission contains false, misleading, fraudulent, or materially incomplete information

A project that was previously optioned or shopped may be eligible if the prior agreement has expired or terminated and all applicable rights have reverted to the entrant.

An unproduced screenplay based on the submitted project does not automatically make the project ineligible, provided the entrant controls the necessary rights.

6. RIGHTS AND AUTHORITY TO ENTER

By submitting a project, the entrant represents and warrants that:

1. The entrant is the author, creator, owner, or authorized representative of the submitted project.

2. The entrant owns or controls the rights necessary to participate in the Competition.

3. The submission does not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights of another person or organization.

4. The entrant has obtained any required authorization from co-authors, illustrators, publishers, estates, artists, or other rights holders.

5. The project is not subject to an agreement that prevents its submission or consideration.

6. There are no undisclosed claims, disputes, legal proceedings, or ownership conflicts involving the submitted project.

7. The information supplied during registration is accurate and complete.

Page Turner Books may request documentation establishing ownership, publication status, rights control, or authority to submit.

Failure to provide requested documentation may result in disqualification.

7. REQUIRED SUBMISSION PACKAGE

Each entry must include the materials identified on the official Competition registration page.

The standard Page Turner Books Adaptation Competition submission package may include:

A logline of up to 75 words
A project synopsis of up to two pages
Selected pages or an excerpt from the written work
An author or creator biography
Publication or distribution information, when applicable
Current representation information, when applicable
A declaration regarding film and television rights
The entrant’s preferred adaptation format
An optional adaptation statement
Selected Written Material

Entrants will submit:

A modest page or word-count overage may be accepted when necessary to conclude a chapter, scene, or section naturally.

Page Turner Books may request the complete manuscript, complete graphic novel, additional pages, artwork, sales information, or supporting materials from projects that advance.

A screenplay adaptation is not required.

8. HOW TO ENTER

Via filmfreeeway.com unless otherwise stated, each paid entry covers one project.

Entrants may submit multiple projects. Each project requires a separate registration and entry fee.

Entries must be submitted electronically. Physical manuscripts, books, comic books, graphic novels, storage devices, or other materials sent by mail will not be accepted or returned.

Page Turner Books is not responsible for submissions that are:

Late
Incomplete
Corrupted
Illegible
Password protected
Improperly formatted
Uploaded to the wrong category
Sent to an incorrect email address
Lost because of a technical or internet failure

Entrants are responsible for confirming that all required materials have been successfully uploaded.

9. ENTRY WINDOWS AND FEES

All Entry Periods will be listed on Filmfreeway.com.

Page Turner Books may extend a deadline or add an additional entry period. Any change will be posted on the official Competition webpage.

Entry fees are nonrefundable except where required by law or when Page Turner Books cancels the Competition without providing an alternative competition period or substantially equivalent service.

Transfer copyright to Page Turner Books
Transfer publishing rights
Transfer film or television rights
Grant Page Turner Books an option
Grant Page Turner Books an exclusive shopping right
Appoint Page Turner Books as the entrant’s agent, manager, producer, publisher, or attorney
Require the entrant to enter into any future agreement

Any future commercial agreement must be separately negotiated and approved in writing by the entrant or applicable rights holder.

Entrants are responsible for protecting their own intellectual-property rights, including registering their work with the United States Copyright Office or another appropriate authority.

Page Turner Books does not provide legal advice concerning copyright registration or rights ownership.

15. NONCONFIDENTIAL SUBMISSIONS

All entries are submitted voluntarily and on a nonconfidential basis.

Page Turner Books and the professionals participating in the Competition receive, review, develop, and encounter many projects, concepts, characters, themes, settings, and story ideas.

Entrants acknowledge that other works may contain elements that are similar to elements in their submission.

Similarity may result from:

Common themes
Genre conventions
Historical events
Public-domain material
Independent creation
Coincidence
Generally available ideas or information

Submission of a project does not create a confidential, fiduciary, agency, management, partnership, employment, or other special relationship between the entrant and Page Turner Books.

Nothing in this section permits Page Turner Books or another party to unlawfully copy or commercially exploit an entrant’s protected expression.

16. WINNER NOTIFICATION AND VERIFICATION

Potential winners and selected entrants will be contacted using the email address or telephone number provided during registration.

Entrants are responsible for:

Keeping their contact information current
Monitoring their email account
Checking spam or junk folders
Responding within the period stated in the notification

A potential winner may be required to provide:

A winner who does not respond within 60 calendar days may be disqualified.

Page Turner Books may select an alternate winner from the remaining eligible entries but is not required to do so.

17. PUBLICITY

Except where prohibited by law, winners and officially recognized entrants grant Page Turner Books permission to use the following information for legitimate Competition, archival, advertising, and promotional purposes:

Photograph or likeness
City, state, or country
Project title
Logline
Competition placement
Approved quotation or testimonial

Page Turner Books may publish this information through:

The Page Turner Books website
The Page Turner Screenplays website
Email newsletters
Social-media accounts
Press releases
Competition announcements
Events, panels, or presentations
Affiliated promotional platforms

Page Turner Books will not publish the complete submitted work or substantial excerpts from it without permission from the applicable rights holder.

18. ENTRANT CONDUCT

Page Turner Books may disqualify an entrant who:

Provides false or misleading information
Attempts to manipulate or interfere with the evaluation process
Contacts or pressures a judge or reader regarding an entry
Threatens, harasses, or abuses staff, readers, judges, or other entrants
Attempts to submit stolen, unauthorized, or plagiarized material
Violates these Official Rules
Engages in fraud or other unlawful conduct
Attempts to compromise the Competition website or registration platform

Disqualification may occur without refund.

Page Turner Books may prohibit an individual from entering future competitions when serious misconduct has occurred.

19. RELEASE AND INDEMNIFICATION

To the fullest extent permitted by law, each entrant agrees to release and hold harmless Page Turner Books and its owners, affiliates, employees, contractors, readers, judges, representatives, sponsors, prize providers, and promotional partners from claims arising from:

Participation in the Competition
Submission of the project
A breach of the entrant’s representations or warranties
Acceptance or use of a prize
A dispute involving the entrant’s rights or authority to submit
A claim that the submitted project infringes another party’s rights

Each entrant agrees to indemnify and defend Page Turner Books against third-party claims, losses, liabilities, damages, expenses, and reasonable attorneys’ fees resulting from the entrant’s breach of these Official Rules or representations.

This provision does not authorize Page Turner Books to exploit the submitted project in violation of applicable copyright law.

20. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Page Turner Books is not responsible for:

Lost, late, incomplete, corrupted, or misdirected submissions
Website, server, software, payment-platform, or internet failures
Email messages blocked by spam filters or delivery systems
Unauthorized access to or interference with the registration process
Errors made by entrants during registration
Damage to a computer, device, file, or network connected to participation
Conduct or decisions of independent judges, readers, or industry professionals
Failure of an industry professional to respond to or pursue a submitted project
Injury, loss, expense, or damage resulting from participation or use of a prize

Nothing in these Official Rules limits liability where such a limitation is prohibited by law.

21. COMPETITION CHANGES OR CANCELLATION

Page Turner Books may modify, suspend, postpone, extend, or cancel the Competition if circumstances beyond its reasonable control affect the integrity, fairness, security, or operation of the Competition.

Such circumstances may include:

Technical failures
Fraud
Cybersecurity incidents
Natural disasters
Government actions
Public-health emergencies
Platform failures
Labor disruptions
Other events beyond reasonable control

If the Competition is canceled, Page Turner Books may provide refunds, credits, substitute services, or another reasonable remedy, subject to applicable law.

22. GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION

These Official Rules and the entrant’s participation in the Competition are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any dispute arising from the Competition or these Official Rules will be resolved through binding arbitration in Los Angeles County, California, under the applicable rules of the American Arbitration Association, unless applicable law requires another procedure.

The arbitration will be conducted by one arbitrator. When reasonably available, the arbitrator should have experience in publishing, entertainment, media, intellectual property, or competition-related disputes.

The arbitrator’s decision will be final and binding.

Unless required by law or ordered by the arbitrator, each party will be responsible for its own attorneys’ fees and costs.

23. SEVERABILITY AND WAIVER

If any provision of these Official Rules is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

Page Turner Books’ failure to enforce a provision does not waive its right to enforce that provision later.

Section titles are included for convenience and do not limit the meaning of the applicable provisions.

24. RESULTS

Announcement dates will be posted on the official Page Turner Books Adaptation Competition webpage.

Affiliated promotional platforms

Recognized entrants and project titles may remain permanently listed in the Page Turner Books and Page Turner Scripts archives.
